Monsoon Car Care Checklist: 7 Things to Sort Before It Starts Raining in Bengaluru

Bengaluru’s monsoon season is hard on vehicles. Wet roads, waterlogged streets, and reduced visibility create conditions that your car needs to be prepared for. Here’s a practical checklist — most of these can be sorted in under an hour at your nearest service station.

  • Tyre tread depth: Tyres need a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm for safe wet-road grip. Insert a 1-rupee coin in the tread groove – if the outer band is visible, it’s time to replace. Better yet, switch to nitrogen inflation (available at Bowring Station) for more stable pressure through temperature swings.
  • Wiper blades: Wiper blades harden and crack in Bengaluru’s summer heat. If they’re streaking or skipping across the screen, replace them before the monsoon. A good pair costs ₹300–₹800 and could save you in an emergency stop.
  • Brakes: Wet roads increase stopping distances significantly. If your brakes feel spongy, take longer to respond, or make grinding sounds, have them inspected. Don’t wait.
  • Battery: Monsoon humidity accelerates battery corrosion. Check for white powder buildup on terminals and have your battery load-tested if it’s more than 2 years old.
  • Engine oil level: Check oil level cold, before starting the engine. Monsoon heat and stop-go traffic stress the engine – make sure you’re not running low. We stock the full SERVO range at Bowring Station.
  • Air filter: A clogged air filter reduces fuel efficiency noticeably in start-stop traffic. If you haven’t replaced yours in the last 15,000 km, it’s due.
  • Lights: Check all lights – headlamps, brake lights, indicators, and reverse lights. Visibility drops sharply in rain, and a blown bulb can mean a challan or worse.

Bowring Station is open 24 hours at St. Marks Road. Stop by for nitrogen tyre inflation and SERVO lubricants – or just to ask our team if something doesn’t feel right with your vehicle.
